In a discussion on Choral Net, original lyrics were said to have been changed substantially over the years and drifted away from the intended meanings.  Once a lyric is translated, it does tend over time to have changes made whether for a particular concert or sound etc.

Once while touring with a choir, we sang with a Welsh choir who sang their half completely in Welsh.  The first few songs were lovely but they might just have sung everything to "lah" as we didn't have a clue as to the meanings.
